The Final T20 Tournament
West District met the Metropolitan District in the final but unfortunately the rain won the day with the West ending in a very strong position. The West won the toss and put the Met in to bat due to the threat of rain.
The Met got off to a reasonable start and lost their first wicket at 27. From then on there was a steady procession back to the pavillion as the West bowlers bowled tidily and the Met found themselves 72 for 8 off 17 overs when the rain came down. J Riddell, S Hill and J Brace bowled particularly well with Spencer Hill picking up 3 wickets in the one over but missing out on the hatrick.

West vs Metropolitan Thursday 28th July
West District won the toss and chose to bat. They got off to a slow start and were 37 for 1 off 9 overs with Charlie Latham making 20. For Central Shivesh Moorathy bowled tightly and only conceded 10 off his first 4 overs, both Will Cutter and George Bex bowled very tightly as first change bowlers and kept the pressure on the West’s batsmen. Johnny Brace (45) and Spencer Hill (31) put on a match winning partnership of 58 for the fourth wicket and when both were out shortly after one another the West’s innings lost its momentum and the West managed to reach a respectable total of 168 for 9 off their allotted 40 overs with Jake Messenger contributing 16 runs at the end of the innings. Metropolitan’s Sachin Bawa finished up with 3 wickets for 11 runs off 4 overs.
Metropolitan District got off to a flyer and this was mainly due to some poor bowling by the West and after 6 overs they had 42 runs. West’s first change bowlers Ollie Barnes and Joe Riddell pulled it back and Joe Riddell in particular bowled very economically and bowled a good line and length. When Barnes bowled Salaman Rana the Metropolitan District innings lost its way and they soon found themselves 78 for 6 wickets and never really recovered. Raja Khan and Shivesh Moorthy were unbeaten at the end but the Metropolitan innings eventually finished with them 113 for 6 of 36 overs when the match was abandoned. Joe Riddell 2 for 9 runs, Jonathan Brace 2 for 10 runs and Bradley Oakes only going for 16 runs off his 8 overs were the pick of the west bowling.

South District U13s vs West District U13s Tuesday 31st May.

Spencer Hill destroyed the lower middle order and tail and ended up with 5 wickets for 6 runs.
The West’s reply did not get of to a good start either and they found themselves 3 for 3 but after a 36 run partnership between Spencer Hill 24 and Johnny Brace 13 thet West reached the Souths total with 5 wickets to spare.

West v North Thursday 2nd June @ High Roding CC
The West once again lost the Toss and were sent into bat. They were soon one down with Sreerag Radhadkrishnan being caught behind off one that bounced on him. Bradley Oakes followed shortly afterwards being caught in cover off a short and wide delivery and West District were 9 for 2. The West continued to lose wickets at regular intervals through a combination of good bowling and bad shot selection and found themselves 56 for 7.
Jake Thompson and Johnny Brace then put on a 38 run partnership for the 8th wicket and took the score to 104 before Jake Thompson was out lbw playing across the line to a straight one. A tenth wicket stand of 35 in 12 overs between Riley Payne and Johnny Brace who was eventually out stumped for 70 and with the score at 140 gave the West’s bowlers something to bowl at.
However the West’s bowlers bowled both sides of the wicket and did not put the North’s batsmen under enough pressure even thought they were 21 for 2 at one stage. With the inconsistency in the bowling it allowed the North’s batsmen to get themselves in and they eventually passed the West’s total with 5 wickets down with Nicholas Harrington batting responsibly and ending up on 67 not out.

West Essex U13 v East Herts U13 Sun 26th June 2011
West Essex hosted an additional competitive, friendly match at Bishop Stortford High School in Much Hadham, with the aim of everyone taking part. Despite rain the previous day, the wicket had been covered and was dry, but damp conditions in the outfield meant that one boundary was scored in the whole match.
West Essex were asked to bat first and East Herts made the most of the early humid, overcast conditions with some good bowling, backed up by good fielding, and with the ball moving around, runs were hard to come by. After 8 overs the score was only 19 and had progressed to 38 when Thomas Langley-Jones was out for 17 in the 13th over. When Jonathan Gadd and Ted Rayment were out, West Essex had reached 52 for 3. A partnership of 36 followed until Mathew Morley-Jacobs was bowled for 25. Having survived an earlier missed stumping, Tom Pierson-McGeorge was next out for 39 off 25 overs.
With only 5 overs remaining, Callum Sparrow and Ryan Deamer were out trying to chase runs in the team’s cause. Despite taking risks West Essex’s innings closed on 116 for 7 with Alexander Thomas 4 not out and Thomas Blake 3no. For East Herts six bowlers took a wicket each.
It was felt the score may have been 20 runs below par, and with a very hot day & clear blue skies, West Essex knew they would have to bowl & field well to compete. Despite an early run out, East Herts’ batted well and progresses steadily to reach 43 for 1 off the first 10 overs – the only other chance being an edge between the keeper and first slip. B Davis made 33 for East Herts.
The next 10 overs saw West Essex bowl more tightly to restrict the flow of runs and to build some pressure on the batsmen. In this session, Riley Payne took one wicket, and both Jonathan Gadd and Ted Rayment took 2 wickets to reduce East Herts to 75 for 6 off 20 overs. Requiring 41 off the last 10 overs, East Herts batted well, in particular T Giblett, although the seventh wicket fell with the score on 87.
Despite best efforts and some good diving stops in the field, East Herts had reached 115 and needed 2 to win off 9 balls with 2 wickets remaining. When a leading edge by Giblett off Jake Thompson went high in the air and was well caught by a diving Jonathan Gadd at square leg, it brought the last pair to the wicket. With Jake Thompson’s next ball being lofted into the covers, it fell to Alexander Thomas to take the catch for West Essex to edge the match by just 1 run.
In game played in a very good manner, it fully succeeded in its aim of being a competitive test and involving all players.
